What is Estonian e-Residency?

e-Residency is a digital identity card issued by the Estonian government that lets non-residents form and manage an Estonian company entirely online. It is not a visa or residency permit — it is a tool for remote digital business management.

Is there really 0% corporate tax in Estonia?

Yes, on retained and reinvested profits. Estonia's unique corporate tax system charges 0% on profits kept inside the company. The 20% rate (applied on a 20/80 gross-up basis) is only triggered when profits are distributed as dividends or salary.

Can I open a bank account for my Estonian company?

Does an Estonian OÜ give me access to the EU single market?

Can Russian or Belarusian nationals form an Estonian OÜ or get Estonian e-Residency?

Estonian e-Residency applications are reviewed individually by the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board. Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Estonia has applied significantly increased scrutiny to applications from Russian and Belarusian nationals. Applications are not automatically approved, and some applicants from these nationalities have been declined. The Estonian OÜ company structure itself is open to all nationalities, but e-Residency (the digital identity card used to manage the company remotely) is subject to the PBGB's discretionary assessment. Estonian residency visa applications by Russian/Belarusian passport holders face enhanced scrutiny and are subject to change based on EU policy developments — subject to change.
