UK Non-Dom Status: What Changed in April 2025

Frequently asked questions

What was the UK non-dom regime?

The non-domicile regime allowed UK residents who were not UK-domiciled (broadly, those whose permanent home was considered to be outside the UK) to pay UK tax only on UK-sourced income and remittances of foreign income to the UK, rather than on worldwide income. This was a significant tax advantage for wealthy non-doms.

What changed in April 2025?

From 6 April 2025, the UK abolished the remittance basis of taxation and replaced it with a residence-based system. New UK residents get a 4-year foreign income exemption (the Foreign Income and Gains regime). Long-term residents who previously used the remittance basis are now taxed on worldwide income. Consult a UK tax advisor for the full implications.

Do you provide tax advice on the non-dom changes?

No. We provide company formation, banking, and registered office services. For the tax implications of the April 2025 reform and what they mean for your specific situation, you must consult a UK-qualified tax advisor or barrister.

What are the main alternatives to UK non-dom status?

Some former non-doms are exploring UAE residency (0% personal income tax), Irish non-dom status (Ireland still has a non-dom regime), Gibraltar, or simply leaving the UK. The right alternative depends on your income sources, lifestyle, and family situation. We assist with entity formation and banking in alternative jurisdictions.
