Can I work remotely in Vietnam on a tourist visa?
Vietnam's e-visa and tourist visa officially permit tourism and short stays, not employment. In practice, many remote workers operate in Vietnam on a tourist basis and work for clients outside Vietnam without local employment. Vietnam does not currently offer a dedicated digital nomad visa. Long-term legal certainty requires a business visa or working with a local employer. We advise on your specific situation.
How long can I stay in Vietnam on an e-visa?
Vietnam's e-visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days per entry (since 2023 upgrade). It is a single or multiple-entry visa valid for up to 90 days per entry within a 90-day validity period. Some nationalities are eligible for the multiple-entry option, allowing re-entry within the same visa period. For stays beyond 90 days, a business visa or visa run is typically required.
What is the cost of living for nomads in Vietnam?
Vietnam is one of the most affordable countries for digital nomads. A comfortable nomad lifestyle in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi (good apartment, co-working space, meals out, motorbike rental) can be maintained for $1,000-$1,800 USD per month. Western-standard accommodation in expat-friendly neighbourhoods costs $400-$800 per month. Da Nang is another popular nomad city with a beach lifestyle at similar costs.
Can I open a bank account in Vietnam as a foreigner?
Yes. Most major Vietnamese banks (Techcombank, VPBank, BIDV, HSBC Vietnam) accept foreigners with a valid passport and visa. A temporary residence registration (TRC) from your landlord is often required. Digital-first accounts (Techcombank's mobile app) have simplified the process significantly.
