Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between GRP and MPRP?

The GRP (Global Residence Programme) grants temporary residency with a 15% flat tax rate. The MPRP (Malta Permanent Residence Programme) grants permanent residency with a property and contribution requirement.

Do I need to live in Malta to maintain my residency?

You must not be a tax resident of another country and must spend at least one day per year in Malta. Full-time residency is not required.

What is the flat tax rate?

Under the GRP, foreign-source income remitted to Malta is taxed at a flat 15%, with a minimum annual tax of €15,000.

Does Malta residency give EU citizenship?

No. Residency and citizenship are separate. Malta does have a separate citizenship by naturalisation programme, which requires a longer process and significant contributions.

Can my family be included?

Yes. Spouse and dependent children can be included on the same Malta residency application.
