Does Japan have a digital nomad visa?
Yes. Japan launched a 6-month digital nomad visa in March 2024. Applicants must earn at least JPY 10 million (approximately $65,000 USD) per year and hold health insurance. The visa is non-renewable but can be followed by other stay categories. We guide you through the eligibility requirements and application process.
Can I open a Japanese bank account as a nomad?
Opening a local Japanese bank account as a short-term visitor is very difficult. Most Tokyo-based nomads use international digital banks such as Wise or Revolut for daily expenses. We assist with setting up international banking that works seamlessly in Japan.
Do I pay tax in Japan as a digital nomad visa holder?
Japan's National Tax Agency describes residence by domicile or residence continuously for at least one year, not a universal 183-day calendar-year rule. The income treatment of a particular remote worker requires Japanese tax advice; visa validity does not itself decide tax residence.
